Work's hard enough, but as for the gym.....
I guess it goes without saying, that it is with great regret (to me anyway!) I inform the world that I did not win the lottery, and I am unfortunately writing this blog from my desk at work, and not from a beach in Barbados! Oh well, you can't win them all!
So, work-wise it has been getting better of late. Last week I actually, dare I say this, quite enjoyed work for the first time in a long time. This week is unfortunately slipping back to the brink as I have to do more "accounting"! And I'm still not quite gelling with my boss - I'm not sure that he likes me! Oh well, I can live with that as long as he doesn't sack me!! Still, maybe that would be the kick up the backside I need?
Met up with a guy from an agency last night, and I practically greeted him with "I hate accounting and want a change of career", to which he replied "ahh, unfortunately we only deal with accountancy jobs". Great start!! I'm sure one day I'll decide what I want to do!!
As for away from work, I must start with a Thank You. Thanks to the mindless junkies who decided to break into my car at the weekend, causing hundreds of pounds of damage, not to mention completely ruining my weekend. Actually, when it comes to ruining my weekend, I have to thank the police for that, who managed to respond in double quick time - a mere 26 hours after I first telephoned to report the break in. Now before I get on my high horse and tell you what a rubbish job they are doing, I'll refrain and say that the majority of Police Officers are, I'm sure, highly conscientious officers who want to cut crime. Unfortunately, the system is against them, be it the law or merely the administration and call handling. For now I'll just put in an official complaint, and save that fight for another day.
So I've joined a gym now - which is *$%^&£% hard work!! It's not as easy as it once was, but as I've promised to once again run a half marathon (this time in the much more idyllic setting of Mansfield, rather than the Thailand countryside), then I'd better pull my finger out and get fit. This too was interrupted by the same mindless youngsters who broke into my car, as they also managed to steal my gym bag containing my trainers, sweaty clothes and heart rate monitor. All I can say is that I hope when they got round to opening the bag, that smell was that vile it knocked them out cold!
Right, back to work for me now, then off to the gym tonight - it's gonna get worse before it gets better!!

Gym'll Fix It
Well, having had a good look at myself in the mirror (both the proverbial mirror, and a real one), I’ve decided it is about time that I joined a gym again and got fit. Having lost a bet a couple of months ago, I have promised to run a local half-marathon in July 2007, so I guess it is about time that I got fit so that I don’t collapse after the first 500 yards! I actually got pretty fit in the run up (no pun intended) to my one and only half marathon to date, but that was nearly 5 years ago now, and since that date I’ve slowly become more unfit. I know how hard it will be to get back to that level of fitness (and beyond it), but I’m determined to give it my best shot.
Had a better day at work today, but it’s still not quite right for me. I like accounting, except when it involves all of those figures!! I can’t be doing with reconciling two meaningless figures together all the time, that’s just boring! But since I don’t know what I want to do instead, I guess I’d better just carry on – maybe one day I’ll fall into my perfect job by accident. Or maybe I’ll win the Euro Millions lottery tomorrow night, with its £100m jackpot. It wouldn’t change my life – I’ll still write my blog, except I’d be writing it from a beach in the
So, until my next blog from St Lucia……………….

Another day, but is the dollar worth it?
Put all this together with one or two other knock-backs in the last couple of weeks, lead me to become very unhappy. Add that to the fact that I really need to go on a diet and get fit – so I really should join a gym! Gym’s cost money, and to get money I’ll have to stay at this job, at least in the short-term!
Actually, one thing I have been struggling with recently is my back. Unfortunately this is obviously a sign of old age (I just didn’t expect to hit old age at 29!). Well, I knew I would run into back troubles sooner or later, with my dad and brother both suffering. It was really getting annoying whilst playing golf yesterday. Never one to warm up properly before I go out to play, I struggled in the cold weather and even colder winds! Carrying my golf bag around isn’t doing it any good, so I think I’m going to finally succumb to buying an electric golf trolley – which will please my old golf buddy Michael no end, after the stick I’ve given him in the past for buying one!
So, for now it’s back to the grind. In between doing just a smidgen of work today, I’ll be searching for my perfect career. Anyone wanting to give me any suggestions is more than welcome to, but sensible suggestions only please – Astronaut and Professional Footballer are probably a little beyond me now!
Ok, well more later. I’m definitely going to update my blog more regularly in the coming weeks, now that I’ve given up trying to fix my dad’s laptop (I think I made it worse). I’m positive it will work again one day – honest.
