10 days to Blast Off!!
Well, I'm closing in fast now to the big 3-0. And with recent events as they are, I feel like I'm having a mid-life crisis. I hope it's not mid-life though, as I fully intend to live past 60!
I came into work this morning convinced I was doing the right thing. I'm not prepared to be used as a scapegoat, that is a certainty. I did manage to sleep a lot better last night though, and could have quite easily have stayed in bed all day. This cold I have is really driving me crazy. They don't seem to shake off very easily, or at least they don't for me. They linger in various forms for weeks on end. I'd much prefer to just get a cold over and done with in a couple of days, but for me, all of the symptoms seem to seperate out over the course of a couple of weeks. I started with the sore throat, moved on to the blocked nose, then onto the sweating and dehydration stage, followed by the runny nose stage and now I'm onto the headaches and dizzyness (some might argue I'm always slightly dizzy!). I hope there are no more stages to go through.
Tonight sees the start of summer though. "Are you crazy?", I hear people shout. Well no I'm not! Tonight is the first of the pre-season cricket net sessions, which is always a pointer to me that we are only about 10 weeks from the cricket season starting, and that's as good as it being summer. It's like the official countdown to the good weather, just that there might be a bumpy ride along the way. For my sins, I am captaining the seconds this year. It's going to be tough for me as I've only played about 5 games for this club, and am struggling with most people's names. I'll have to revert to the emergency naming convention. If in doubt, call everyone Dave or Steve. There must be a 50% chance that I'd be right, surely?? I find that people tend to answer to those names anyway, even if it is not their name, it just makes it a lot easier for me.
I'm looking forwards to the weekend now. Just have a little time to reflect on this weeks events and have a rest whilst trying to get rid of this cold. I may even find time to go to the gym (let's not push my luck too much!). I should really play some golf too, as I've almost forgotten how to swing a club. This in itself may not be such a bad thing as it might result in me forgetting some of the bad habits I've picked up. I think I'm getting to a stage where a trip to see my personal golf coach (my brother), as he's the only one who can seemingly get the best out of my game. The fact that he doesn't charge for lessons is merely coincidental!
So, that's something else to add to my thinking list. Am I tight?? I think "frugal", "economical" and "thrifty" are better descriptives of me. There are probably other words that people will want to describe me as, but I'll opt for "careful".
Nige's "Final Thought"......
We all should stop and take stock of what we've got. Sometimes we don't realise what we've got until it's gone. And be careful of what you wish for, as it may just come true...........
